I build these alone, in my own time, and then post them where the people who would actually use them are. Usually a subreddit.

The honest version of how that goes: most communities do not want your tool. They want a cheap reason to stop thinking about it, and "vibe coded" or "self promo" is the cheapest one on the shelf. You will spend more of a thread defending the fact that you posted than talking about what you built.

I use AI to build these. I am not hiding it and I am not apologising for it. It is a tool, the same as an editor or a linter, and the code either runs or it does not. Some communities have decided that settles the question on its own. They will tell you the code is bad without opening it.

Post anyway. Just know which rooms are worth walking into.

Worth your time

• r/youtubedl

  The best of the four by a wide margin. People asked real questions about how the thing worked, suggested features that were actually good, and reported bugs instead of assuming the worst. It is also the only one of the four that hands out real developer flair to the author of a tool. Nobody cared that AI was part of the build, they cared whether it downloaded the video. There is still the usual Reddit edge on some replies, but it never took over the thread. If you build anything in this space, start here.

Not worth your time

• r/DataHoarder

  Mass reported the post, then compared the tool to a long abandoned project that has not worked in years, as an insult. Corrections were ignored and the same claim was repeated back. Post removed. Nobody downloaded it, nobody ran it, nobody opened the repo. The verdict arrived before anyone looked.

• r/Linux

  "Vibe coded" was the entire review, alongside several flatly false claims about what the tool did and how it was built. Nobody checked any of them. The post was removed on the strength of them.

• r/Warframe

  I built a squad finder. A platform picker, a relic picker, and open slot tracking. It reads nothing out of the game and writes nothing into it. I posted it and I was banned from the subreddit, and the stated reason was that it looked AI made, along with claims about what AI can and cannot build that were not true. Building something for that community gets treated as the problem in itself.
